Marco Decimo's musical education started at the “G.Verdi” Conservatory of Music of Milan with M.Leali, thereafter he attended the specialized courses held by D.Shafran, R.Filippini and for the string quartet by P.Borciani.
He's played both in Italy and abroad (London, Berlin, Madrid, Praha, Budapest, Istanbul, Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, Asuncion) during the ECYO tour in 1983 under the direction of C.Abbado; in chamber music ensembles such as Borciani, Stauffer, David and the Edison Trio (collaborating, among the others, with S.Palm, A. Meneses and R.Honeck in 2005 and 2006) and as first cello in the Stradivari Chamber Orchestra of Milan directed by D. Gatti.
He plays in the Quartetto Dorico; since 1997 he's been collaborating with L.Einaudi with whom he realized 7 CDs, 3 of which for Decca Records as well as several tours in Italy, Germany (at the Berlin Philharmonic) and in UK where he performed, among others, at the Royal Albert Hall and at the Barbican Center of London.
Still with Einaudi in 2006 he realized and recorded 2 adagios as soloist for cello and orchestra from Divenire with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Strings.
He has realized a number of recordings and radio recordings, among which the first ever recording of the cello's sonates of G.B. Platti , the complete works for trio of Casella, the trios Op.1 and string quartets Op.2 of A. Sacchini, the string quintet and nonet of A. Zanella, the double string quartet of O.Respighi, besides other works by Brahms (clarinet trio with A.Carbonare and A. Dindo), Hindemith (octet with the Arnold quintet), Vivaldi (sonatas Op.2 and 5, with H.Liviabella), Cherubini (the 6 string quartets, published by Bis), Verdi and Puccini (the complete works for string quartet still edited by Bis), in addition he also took part to many recordings of contemporary composers such as G. Sollima, J. Adams, M. Gordon, M.Nyman and D. Lang.
He teaches String Quartet at the Conservatory of Music G.Nicolini of Piacenza.
In Rome, Genoa and Milan he performed the cello and ensemble concert Zebra Crossing by C.Boccadoro dedicated to him; in 2000 he composed and played the piece Ad Agio for cello and strings.
He also worked with several jazz musicians like G. Mirabassi, M. Colombo, M.Negri, B.Ferra, R. and C.Marcotulli, R.Pareti, P.Fresu, D.Moroni, L.Minetti, W.Lupi, the Aisha Duo and with T.Harrell and R.Leao.
In 2001 and 2004 with the ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi he performed at the Teatro alla Scala of Milan.
In 2002 along with the David String Quartet he was invited at the Berlin Philharmonic, and in 2004 at the TonHalle of Zurich.
In 2006 he played the Italian first performance of Cello Counterpoint of Steve Reich.
Since 2009 he's been teaching cello and chamber music at the summer seminars of Perinaldo Festival.
In 2010 he won the Trophy Insound for the string category.
Since September 2010 he has become first guest cello at the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala.
